Directions for Making Your Own Play Doh

Add the flour, salt and tartar together in a medium saucepan.

Then add the vegetable oil and water.

Turn the burner onto a medium to low setting.

You want to stir it slowly. If it is a bit lumpy, that is okay. This is when you want to add the color of your choice. The play doh mixture is going to get thick fast, so adding the color before it does ensures that you’re able to mix it all in before the mixture is completely done.

Keep stirring the mixture until it becomes thick and no longer wet. Always make sure to scrape it off the bottom of the pan as you go along. You then want to ball it up out of the pan.

You then want to let it cool on wax paper for a minute before kneading it out and then placing it in an airtight bag or container. If you notice it become dry, add a few drops of water to the mixture and it should get back together.

The whole process shouldn’t take more than five minutes, and less if you’re going to make additional balls of colored doh.

The best part is that this Play Doh will last for quite a while. This recipe will yield enough to make one large ball of Play Doh. You can cut it in half for two smaller colors or just repeat the recipes as many times as you’d like to get as many colors as you’d like.
